Advocacy
All development in Long Island City must contribute to the evolution of a secure, vital and livable neighborhood for all residents without adding to its existing deficits in schools, infrastructure, affordable housing, transportation, resilience and environmental sustainability. We need comprehensive inclusive community-based planning and legislation that monitors the health and economic impacts of climate change will most definitely feed future policy, regulation, and resource allocation. Our neighborhood’s future should not be driven by developers’ for-profit needs.
Public trust has been eroded as the local government does not adequately address climate change. We propose a complete moratorium on future large-scale development unless and until a comprehensive, enforceable community plan is in place and consistent height and density limits are established that reflect impact on social, economic and climate justice.
